Union Minister Moily inaugurates country’s first Transport Hub of HPCL at Bala

Mangalore, Feb 9, 2014:  Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily  inaugurated  the country’s  first Transport  Hub of HPCL Mangalore LPG Import Facility (MLIF) at Bala in the outskirts of the city on February 8, Saturday. The Hub aimed at the  convenience of  the travelling LPG tanker crew, will have a parking area  which can accommodate 60-70 trucks. It also has a dormitory, gym, medical room, book bank, canteen, ATM, drinking water and resting room among other facilities.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Moily said the Perne gas tanker tragedy reported in April 2013 which claimed ten lives, made  his department think in terms of constructing a Transport Hub. The  absence of any facility for the convenience of the tanker crew and  also time to relax, might have led to accidents, he said.

He also informed that the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited’s (ISPRL) crude oil storage facility at Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) in Mangalore will be commissioned next month.  He said 75 per cent of the work of underground cavern at Padur is complete.

Referring to the protests against laying of LPG pipelines, Moily said such underground gas pipelines can also avert many road accidents involving LPG tankers. He further said development was a must if more jobs are to be generated.

State Minister for Health UT Khader, Youth Services Minister Abhayachandra Jain, Moidin Bava, MLA, Kanuru Srinivas, HPCL South Zone DGM(LPG), Saikumar Suri, DGM(Retail) and others were present.
