Ullal: Fishing boat capsizes after engine failure; Rs 1.5 crore loss, fishermen safe

Ullal, Sept 15, 2025: A fishing boat capsized after its engine suddenly stopped and crashed into boulders placed along the shore at Ullal Sea Ground in the early hours of Monday.

The boat, named Burakh and owned by Ashfaq, met with the mishap. Fortunately, all 13 fishermen on board, including the driver, swam safely to the shore.

Boat capasizes

According to reports, the boat had left Mangaluru fishing harbour at around 2:30 a.m. with 13 crew members. Near Ullal Sea Ground, the engine suddenly failed, causing the vessel to lose control and hit the temporary boulders laid as part of sea erosion prevention works, leading to the capsize, said boat manager Khalil.

The boat was completely damaged in the incident, with losses estimated at around ₹1.5 crore, including fishing nets and other valuable equipment. Ullal police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
