Byndoor, Apr 30, 2026: Three people were killed and several others injured after a tourist bus crashed into a parked tanker on the National Highway near Trasi Beach in Byndoor taluk on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as spare driver Raghu, bus cleaner Ranganath, and cook Hemanth. The bus was travelling from Murudeshwar towards Udupi when it rammed into a tanker parked by the roadside. The impact was severe, leaving many passengers injured, some critically.

Trasi beach accident


The bus was carrying around 61 passengers, including final-year BCom students from Shankarghatta Rambhapuri College in Shivamogga district, who were on a three-day coastal tour along with lecturers and support staff.

According to reports, the bus lost control while heading towards Udupi and crashed into a tanker and a lorry parked on the roadside. The front portion of the bus was completely crushed due to the impact. The cleaner and a cooking assistant died on the spot, while a student sustained serious injuries.

The bus driver, Manjunath, who was seriously injured, is now said to be out of danger.

The group had stayed in Honnavar the previous night and resumed their journey towards Udupi on Wednesday. The accident occurred shortly after they left Maravanthe, where they had stopped to visit the beach. There were 54 students, four lecturers, two cooks, and a cleaner on board.

Local residents rushed to the scene and assisted in rescue operations. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Three students are currently undergoing surgery but are reported to be out of danger.

Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole visited the accident site, while MP B.Y. Raghavendra gathered information over the phone. Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, along with the ASP and a team from Gangolli police station, also inspected the spot.
