Mangaluru, June 13, 2026: Following Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s directive to take stringent action against unauthorised flex boards and banners, the district administration has ordered their immediate removal. In compliance with the instruction, officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have launched a special drive to clear illegal displays across the city.
The number of unauthorised hoardings, flex boards and banners, including those put up to congratulate the newly appointed Chief Minister, had increased significantly at several prominent locations in the city in recent days. With the monsoon intensifying along the coastal region, such unsafe structures pose a serious risk of collapsing due to strong winds and heavy rain, endangering motorists and pedestrians.
Corporation officials have already removed several illegal banners that were obstructing roads and public spaces or had been erected in a hazardous manner in areas such as Padil, Pumpwell, Kannur and Jeppinamogaru.
The Deputy Commissioner has issued a stern warning that individuals or organisations installing advertisements illegally will face hefty penalties and legal action.
The district administration has further cautioned that if any negligence, delay or mishaps occur due to such unauthorised structures, the concerned local civic officials will be held directly accountable under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
