Commonwealth Games: Neeraj Chopra qualifies for javelin throw final

New Delhi, Jul 30, 2026: Indian ace Neeraj Chopra qualified for Commonwealth Games 2026 javelin throw final with best throw of 79.61M.

Other two Indians -- Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh -- also made the cut for the finals.

Neeraj finished fifth in the qualification round.

Twenty athletes competed in the qualification round, with the top 12 advancing to the final. The automatic qualification mark was set at 83M.

Neeraj who won the gold at Gold Coast in 2018 with a throw of 86.47M, but missed the 2022 edition in Birmingham due to injury.

Men’s javelin has become one of Asia’s most competitive events, with Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, Sri Lanka’s Diamond League winner Rumesh Pathirage and Neeraj regularly challenging each other on the international circuit.

Except for the likes of Curtis Thompson of USA and Julian Weber of Germany, all the global javelin top stars were in action at Glasgow.

The final will be held on Friday (July 31).
