Mangaluru, Jun 13, 2026: Despite global challenges, India has achieved a remarkable economic growth rate of 7.7 per cent under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and this growth trajectory is expected to continue, said Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs.
Addressing a press conference during the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Convention in Mangaluru on Saturday, Agrawal said India, which had an economy of just USD 1.9 trillion during the 2003–2014 period, has now grown to USD 4.1 trillion. Comparing the economic growth rates of major countries, he said India recorded 7.7 per cent growth, while the United States registered 2.6 per cent, China 4.4 per cent, Japan 0.7 per cent, Equatorial Guinea 0.72 per cent and Germany 6.79 per cent.
He stated that over the past 12 years, 25 crore people have moved above the poverty line. The unemployment rate stands at 5.1 per cent, inflation has been contained at 4.5 per cent, and per capita income has increased significantly from Rs 49,000, he said.
Highlighting various welfare initiatives of the Union Government, Agrawal said that 80 crore people are receiving free ration, electricity has reached all villages and households, children are being provided free education, and healthcare benefits under Ayushman Bharat have reached 50 crore beneficiaries. He added that 10.51 crore people have received free LPG connections, while beneficiaries are receiving a subsidy of Rs 302 on four LPG cylinders.
Referring to the implementation of central schemes in Karnataka, he said that 21.2 million bank accounts have been opened under the Jan Dhan Yojana in the state. Around 1.6 crore people have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, 2.6 crore from the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and 48.9 lakh people from the Atal Pension Yojana.
Responding to a question from the media regarding a possible change in the Karnataka BJP president, Agrawal said that the decision would be taken by a committee headed by the party’s national president.

Palemar, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Dr. Bharat Shetty, Umanath Kotian, Harish Poonja and Rajesh Naik, BJP leaders Bhagirathi Murulya, Legislative Council members Pratap Simha Nayak and Kishore Kumar, former MLA Monappa Bhandary, Dakshina Kannada BJP president Satish Kumpala, former mayor Premanand Shetty and others were present at the press conference.
