Kundapura: 21-Year-Old Drowns While Swimming With Friends in Suligundi Hirehole River

Kundapura, June 14, 2026: A 21-year-old college student went missing after drowning while swimming in the Suligundi Hirehole river at Beloor village under Thekkatte gram panchayat limits on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 4.30 pm.

The deceased, Samaraj of Garikematha, was a final-year BCom student at a private college. He reportedly went missing around 4.30 pm on Saturday while swimming in the Arbeattu Suligundi Hirehole river.

Despite heavy rain since Sunday morning, renowned diver Eshwar Malpe and his team launched an intensive search operation. Using oxygen cylinders, the team combed the swollen river and located the body in the middle of the river at around 9.24 am.

Members of the Kota Jeevan Mitra team, including Nagaraj, and local residents assisted in the rescue efforts.

Kota police inspector Praveen and his team visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case.
