Udupi, May 22, 2026: The Udupi District Police have installed advanced speed radar cameras at six locations along the national highway across the district, and the systems have now become operational, the department said in a release.
The cameras will monitor vehicles violating traffic rules through the district control room, and challans related to violations will be sent by post, the release added.
At present, speed radar cameras have been installed at six locations, while 14 more spots have been identified for the project. The tender process has already been completed and work orders will be issued shortly, said Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar.
The cameras have currently been installed at Doopadakatte in Karkala (speed limit 60 kmph), Uchila in Padubidri (80 kmph), near Dandatheertha School in Kaup (80 kmph), Thekkatte in Kota (80 kmph), Trasi in Gangolli (80 kmph), and Nayakanakatte in Byndoor (80 kmph).
The SP clarified that the speed limits have been fixed in accordance with National Highways Authority regulations and highway traffic rules.
The radar cameras can detect various traffic violations including overspeeding, triple riding, seat belt violations, helmet violations, using mobile phones while driving, wrong-side driving, and other traffic offences.
Traffic violations detected by the cameras will be monitored from the district control room. Fine challans will be sent through post, and violators can pay the penalty amount at any police station in Udupi district within seven days of receiving the challan, the department stated.
