New Delhi, Jul 6, 2026: A political slugfest broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over Arvind Kejriwal’s “Aap kaun hain?" (“Who are you?") remark directed at BJP chief Nitin Nabin, with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accusing the former Chief Minister of being driven by “desperation" while his “ego is still riding high."

Gupta, in a post on X, introduced Nabin by highlighting his political journey, saying he is the youngest-ever national president of the BJP, has represented Bihar’s Bankipur Assembly constituency for four consecutive terms, and rose through the party ranks from the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha to the top organisational post.

Rekha Gupta-Kejriwal

“Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Mr. Nitin Nabin, aged 46, is the youngest-ever national president of the world’s largest political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party. He has had the honor of representing the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Bihar for four consecutive terms.

Starting as an activist in the Yuva Morcha, he has journeyed all the way to becoming the party’s national president. Currently, he has been elected as a member of the upper house of Parliament in the world’s largest democracy. This is a brief introduction to him," the Chief Minister said.

Targeting Kejriwal, she said, “Everyone knows you’re feeling desperate and disheartened. But it seems your ego is still riding high in the seventh heaven."

Drawing a comparison with a past remark by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gupta said, “Mamata ji once asked too, ‘Who is this Amit Shah?’ Time answers every question. Even Ravana’s arrogance couldn’t hold; who are you to think yours will?"

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma also took a swipe at the AAP chief, saying, “National President is a very big deal, but do you even remember me or not?"

What’s The Row?

The war of words began over the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Nabin had accused the Opposition leaders of remaining silent over “insults" of Hindu deities.

In an address at BJP’s Shakti Kendra Sanyojak Sammelan in Lucknow, he said, “Today, I want to tell Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Kejriwal that you do not consider the Hindu religion so weak that people will fall for your rhetoric."

“Because when your people insult Hindu deities, you all remain silent. The people of UP and the country will never tolerate the insult to Sanatan. We have preserved our heritage, for which our ancestors even made sacrifices," the BJP president said as the party gears up for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Following that, Kejriwal had remarked, “Who are you?"

Ram Mandir Donation Row

Meanwhiel, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues its probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple. The Uttar Pradesh government recently granted the SIT a 15-day extension to widen the scope of its investigation.

Eight people associated with the temple’s donation collection and counting process have been arrested so far, while the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of devotees’ contributions is continuing.

So far, investigators have recovered substantial amounts of cash from the accused, including Rs 20.39 lakh from Avinash Shukla, Rs 18.07 lakh from Karunesh Pandey, Rs 16.82 lakh from Anukalp Mishra, Rs 14.25 lakh from Lavkush Mishra, Rs 7.32 lakh from Ramashankar Mishra and Rs 1 lakh from Ramashankar Yadav alias Tinnu.
