Udupi, July 5, 2026: Manipal Police have arrested a 20-year-old school bus conductor for allegedly filing a false complaint after an investigation revealed that he, and not the driver named in the complaint, was driving a school bus that met with an accident, injuring several students.

The accident occurred on June 25 near Syndicate Circle on National Highway 169(A), opposite Central Park Hotel, when a school bus belonging to Al-Ibaadah School, Perampalli, crashed into a road divider.

School Bus Conductor Arrested for False Complaint

Following the incident, conductor Mohammed Rahij, a resident of Katapadi, lodged a complaint claiming that his father, Rizwan, was driving the bus. A case was initially registered under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

However, CCTV footage from the accident site revealed that Rahij himself was behind the wheel. Police also found that he did not possess a valid driving licence.

Based on the findings, police booked him under Sections 110 and 229 of the BNS for allegedly providing false information and related offences. Investigators also initiated legal action against the bus owners for allegedly allowing an unlicensed person to operate the vehicle, thereby endangering the lives of schoolchildren.

Rahij was arrested on July 3, produced before a court, and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress.
