Udupi: Police trace 48 lost mobile phones, hand over to owners

Udupi, Apr 7, 2026: Udupi Town Police successfully traced and recovered 48 lost mobile phones and handed them over to their rightful owners on Monday at the Town Police Station.

The recovery was made possible through complaints registered by citizens using the Karnataka State Police (KSP) mobile application and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The beneficiaries had reported the loss of their devices through the KSP app, enabling police to initiate tracking and recovery operations.

Following these complaints, the police team tracked down and seized the missing devices. After completing the necessary verification procedures, the phones were returned to their respective owners.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar and DySP Belliyappa, with PSI Eeranna Shiragumpi and PSI Gopalakrishna Jogi leading the team.

Speaking on the occasion, PSI Eeranna Shiragumpi urged the public to immediately report lost or stolen mobile phones.

“If a mobile phone is stolen, it may be misused for criminal activities. Hence, it is essential to report the loss at the nearest police station without delay. Citizens should use the ‘e-Lost’ option in the KSP app to submit details and obtain acknowledgment, which is required to get a duplicate SIM card. By uploading details on the CEIR portal, the phone can be blocked and its usage tracked. Similarly, if important documents are lost, a complaint should be filed immediately to avoid any possible misuse,” he said.
