Mangalore, Jan 22, 2012: Spectrum 2012, a one-day scientific symposium on cardiovascular research and therapies was inaugurated at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Jan 22 Sunday.
Dr. B. V. Manjunath, the chief interventional cardiologist at AJ Hospital and Research Centre and head of the department of cardiology at AJ Institute of Medical Sciences was the chief convener of the symposium, AJ Shetty, the chief guest of the inauguration ceremony and also the chairman and managing director of AJ Hospital and Research Centre, spoke of the need to create awareness on free treatment facilities for the poor.





Dr. A. V. Shetty, the senior cardiologist and another guest, said that knowledge should be freely and readily available to everybody and that those in the medical profession should be more service minded.
Ramesh Pai, the dean of AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, said that clinical diagnosis is essential in spite of the all the advances in the medical profession.
Dr. Ullas Pandurangi, the leading cardiologist at Madras Medical Mission, Dr. K. Shrinivas, Dr. Jayaranganath, and Dr. Prasanna Simha of Shri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research were the resource persons.
The event included lectures, ECG quiz, debate, interactive sessions, panel discussions, and others. Participants could interact with resource persons through an electronic voting pad.
Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the ECG quiz.
