Mangaluru, Oct 3, 2026: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta inaugurated a newly constructed Material Recovery Facility (MRF) unit in Vitla Town Panchayat limits on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chowta said the facility was constructed at a cost of around ₹60.10 lakh under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, a flagship initiative of the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other centrally sponsored schemes.
The facility has a capacity to process three tonnes per day (TPD) of dry waste. It is expected to introduce a more scientific system for the collection, segregation and disposal of dry waste within the Vitla Town Panchayat limits, he said.
Chowta said the facility would further strengthen the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission in rural areas.
Scientific waste management can help effectively prevent environmental pollution, while systematic collection and disposal of dry waste can also create local employment opportunities and facilitate the recovery of economically useful resources, he said.
Following the programme, Chowta joined BJP workers in planting and watering saplings at Palike in Booth No. 5 of the Vitla Mahashakti Kendra under the Puttur Rural Mandal. The programme was held as part of the Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.
Vitla Town Panchayat president Karunakara, vice-president Sangeetha Panemajalu, Standing Committee chairman Ashok Kumar Shetty, Agricultural Credit Cooperative Society president Narsappa Poojary and BJP leaders Devappa Poojary, Sanjay Prabhu, Prasanna Darbe, Nithish Kumar Shantivana, Hariprasad Yadav, Vidyadhar Jain, Srikrishna Vitla, Preetham Poonja, Uday Alangar and Harish C.H. were present.
