Mangalore Today News Network

Surathkal, May 6, 2026: Frequent accidents are occurring due to the incomplete four-lane road work on the Kana–MRPL stretch here. Demanding immediate completion of the project, a protest was held on Tuesday near Kana Junction, led by the DYFI Kana unit, the Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Association (CITU), and the Citizens’ Action Committee, Kana. Protesters staged a road blockade as part of the agitation.

Addressing the protest, DYFI district president B.K. Imthiyaz said that funds had been released by the government for the four-lane road project after a prolonged struggle by the public. However, due to a tussle between the City Corporation and the Public Works Department, the project has been left in limbo. Despite daily accidents involving two-wheeler riders, the concerned authorities have failed to take action. He accused elected representatives of remaining silent spectators and warned that the City Corporation office would be gheraoed if the work is not completed immediately.
