Moodbidri: Signature campaign seeks complete ban on cow slaughter in India

Moodbidri, Sep 22, 2026: A signature campaign demanding a complete ban on cow slaughter across India was held at Alangaru on Monday.

The campaign, led by Moodbidri Gau Seva coordinator and Amrutha Organic Store, Alangaru, representative Ashok Bhandari, was organised to urge the government to accord cows the status of ‘Rashtra Mata’ (Mother of the Nation) and a national sacred status.

As part of the campaign, a team visited Padumarnadu Janata Multipurpose Cooperative Society and met its president, office-bearers, directors and staff. The team sought their support for the campaign and initiated the signature collection drive.

The campaign also called for granting cows the status of a national heritage and introducing a central law for cow protection. Other demands included establishing a Union ministry dedicated to cow welfare, finalising a fodder security policy, promoting cow-based agriculture, and increasing the production and marketing of Panchagavya products derived from indigenous cattle breeds.

Cooperative society president M Dayananda Pai, director Usha D Pai, vice-president Rajesh Kamath, secretary Umavathi and other directors were present.

Ashok Bhandari led the team that organised the campaign.
