Mangalore, May 15, 2012: Suhas Gopinath, the CEO and president of Global Inc., shared his inspiring success story with engineering students at the valedictory ceremony of Srishti 2012, a state-level project exhibition and competition organized at Sahyadri College by the Akhil Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP). 


Mr. Gopinath said that he had to drop out of engineering college because he had attendance shortage. He used to spend his pocket money on Internet cafes when he was a teenager, and when he spent all his pocket money, he made a deal with the Internet café owner, according to which the Internet café owner allowed him to use the Internet for free in exchange for taking care of the café during lunch hour.

As a high school student, Mr. Gopinath learned web designing and began designing websites for companies, but an American company refused work with him because he was a high school student.


This was when Mr. Gopinath decided to start his own company at the age of 16. On his 18th birthday, he discussed possibilities of expanding his company with his auditors. 


A leading industrialist today, Mr. Gopinath said that academics are essential, but nothing can teach students better than life. 


Speaking on the occasion, Siddaiah, the government principal secretary for higher education, said that engineers must develop affordable solutions. Expressing his concern for acute power shortage, he urged students to find different ways to generate power using renewable sources such as solar energy and wind. 


Dr. Raghu Akmanchi, national vice president of ABVP; Siddaiah; Sudhir P. Ghate, president of the reception committee; Dr. U. M. Bhushi, the principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, were also present. 


KVG College of Engineering, Sullia won the first place for their project “Design and Fabrication of Compact Organic Manure” in the mechanical/automobile category. Shri Shiradi Sai Engineering College, Bangalore won he second place for their project “Hybrid Air Compressed Car.” Shrinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore won the third prize for their project “Wall Plastering Machine.” 


Basaveshwara Engineering College, Bagalkot won the first prize for their project titled “Automatic Flood Monitoring and Protection of Dams” in the electrical and electronics category. Hira Sagar Institute of Technology, Nidshoshi won the second place for their project “Client Server Based Control and Monitoring Power Distribution System.” P. A. Engineering College of Bellary won the third place for “Smart Card Based Prepaid Electricity S/M.” 


Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur won the first and second prizes for “Smart Farmer Assistant” and Automatic License Plate Recognition for Moving Vehicles with Motion Algorithm,” respectively, in the electronics and communication category. Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management in Mangalore won the third prize for “Wifi Based Data Transfer from USB to PC.”
