Mangalore, Jan 20, 2012: The Lokayukta police have arrested a second division clerk of the land registration department red-handed when accepting Rs. 8000 as bribe on Jan 20 Friday. 


The arrested is David, who is employed as a second division clerk in the land registration office in the premises of the DC’s office. He was caught while accepting bribe to complete the procedures of a power of attorney.

The Lokayukta acted on a tip from Ramachandra Bondanthila, a resident of Vamanjoor, who approached David in connection with a power of attorney for a site owned by Roopashri. 


Reportedly, David had asked Ramachandra to create a DD for Rs. 32,000 as fees for the power of attorney procedure. He had also demanded an additional amount of Rs. 8000 to complete the pending work. Besides, Ramachandra also had to pay a 6 percent penalty according to the rule enforced from April 1, 2011. 


Based on the complaint lodged by Ramachandra, the Lokayukta police raided the office and nabbed the culprit. 


The team comprised Jagamayyanawar, the superintendent of police at Karwar; Sadananda Vernekar, the deputy superintendent; and Udaya Nayak, the inspector of the Lokayukta. 


According to Udaya Nayak, a Lokayukta official, David had been let off with a warning in the past, but had continued accepting bribes.
