Kasaragod: 15-year-old student dies after falling into well during Onam celebrations

Kasaragod, Aug 29, 2026: A 15-year-old student died after accidentally falling into an open well during an Onam celebration near Cheemeni in Kasaragod district.

The deceased has been identified as Sanoop (15), son of Dhanesh, a resident of Anikkadi in Kodakkad.

Boy dies

The incident occurred on Thursday night under the jurisdiction of the Cheemeni police station. Sanoop was attending an Onam programme when he went outside with his classmates and accidentally fell into a nearby open well.

Police and fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and rescued Sanoop from the well. He was subsequently shifted to a hospital in Kannur for further treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening.

Sanoop was a Class 10 student at Timiri Kuttamath Government Higher Secondary School in Cheruvathur.
