Puttur: Xerox shop assault case takes fresh turn as victim urges end to communal, political controversy

Mangaluru, Aug 29, 2026: A fresh twist has emerged in the assault case at a Xerox shop in Darbe, Puttur, where an argument over ₹300 and the burning of a document allegedly led to a dispute that was later portrayed as a communal issue.

Victim Mubashira has appealed to all concerned to drop the matter and avoid turning it into a communal or political controversy. She said she and her family have no interest in creating a Hindu-Muslim dispute and urged political parties, including the Congress, BJP and SDPI, not to use the incident for political gains.

Speaking to News First, Mubashira said the shop staff assaulted them during the incident. “We did nothing there. We came directly to the hospital and were admitted. We do not know what happened at the shop afterwards,” she said.

She added that those who later created a disturbance at the spot were neither known to her nor from her village.

Mubashira said the person who allegedly assaulted them has already been arrested and that the family only wants their medical expenses to be covered. “We do not want anything else,” she said.

According to the victim’s family, they had given a birth certificate at the Xerox shop for lamination. The certificate was allegedly damaged/burnt due to a technical issue, following which a heated argument took place between the two sides.

Mubashira appealed to the authorities and others involved to end the matter peacefully, saying they had not anticipated that such a minor dispute would escalate into such a major controversy.
