KPSC scam: Gnanendra finally appears for questioning

Bengaluru, Aug 29, 2026: Days after allegations of irregularities emerged in a veterinary examination conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning on Friday.

CID officials, led by Superintendent of Police Raghavendra K Hegde, questioned Gangwar for more than nine hours in connection with the alleged examination irregularities.

A senior CID officer said Gangwar was questioned in detail based on the preliminary evidence gathered during the investigation. “We cannot say at this stage whether he will be issued another notice to appear for questioning or be arrested,” the officer said.

The CID had issued a notice directing Gangwar to appear before the investigating officer after taking over the cases registered at the Vidhana Soudha police station.

On August 23, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted a search at Gangwar’s residence in Jayamahal Extension. It is alleged that he received around ₹1.1 crore from two candidates who appeared for the examination, whose OMR answer sheets were allegedly tampered with.

Gangwar was serving as the Controller of Examinations at the KPSC when the alleged irregularities took place.
