Sullia, October 13, 2026: Two men died after suffering electric shocks, while a minor boy was injured in an incident at Bommetti in Kalmadka village of Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.

The deceased have been identified as Ramesh alias Ganesh (36), a resident of Kalmadka in Sullia, and Bharat (28), a resident of Guruvayanakere in Belthangady. The injured boy was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Electrocution

According to reports, on October 12, Ganesh and Bharat went fishing at Hollekere in Kalmadka village along with the minor boy. While they were moving through a stream to catch fish, they reportedly came into contact with an electric current that had spread from a nearby plantation belonging to Madhusoodhan Bhat.

After witnessing the incident, the boy informed his relatives, who rushed the three to KVG Hospital. However, doctors examined Ganesh and Bharat and declared them dead. The injured boy was admitted as an inpatient for further treatment.

Police have registered a case against Madhusoodhan Bhat at the Bellare police station for allegedly installing an unauthorised electric connection in the plantation. The case has been registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 135(1)(e) of the Electricity Act. Further investigation is under way.
