Bantwal, Jan 4, 2012 : Samanvaya Mangalore inaugurated its 13th free trailoring course in the parish hall of Nirkan on Jan 3 in honor of the late Fr. Bernard D’Souza, who was known for his concern for the poor.
Fr. Benjamin Lobo, the chief guest of the event, inaugurated the 6-month free tailoring course and urged students to make the best use of it.
Dr. Ronald Cutinha, the director of Samanvaya, spoke about the 12 similar courses conducted previously. He said that all the 168 students of the previous courses were now earning their living and had improved their quality of life.
Revealing the objectives of this course, Dr. Pius F. Pinto, the managing trustee of Samanvaya, said that it is in honor of the late Fr. Bernard D’Souza who was known for his sense of justice and courage.
Among the dignitaries on the dais were SVP Benedict D’Souza, Benedicta Menezes, the tailoring teacher, and Shonel Lobo, the parish council secretary.
Sr. Lizzy BS delivered the welcome address and Gracious Viegas proposed the vote of thanks.
Twenty-five women have already registered for the course, with Fr. Benjamin Lobo bearing the entire expenses of the course.
