Bantwal: Tree falls on moving school bus, five-year-old girl killed; two children seriously injured

Mangaluru, Jul 23, 2026: A massive tree toppled onto a moving school bus in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday, killing a five-year-old girl and seriously injuring two other children.

The deceased has been identified as Chiranvi (5), daughter of Chandrahas of Biliyooru village in Bantwal taluk. She was a UKG student at Srirama School, Kalladka.

Tree fall on Bus

The accident occurred near the Kanalthaya Daivasthana at Kalleti in Bantwal taluk when the large tree fell onto a school bus belonging to Srirama School.

Chiranvi, who was critically injured in the incident, was immediately rushed from the spot in an auto-rickshaw by a local woman. She was being taken to Puttur Government Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries on the way.

The two other children who sustained serious injuries are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kalladka and Mangaluru.

Bantwal Tahsildar visited the Puttur Government Hospital following the incident. The district administration has assured compensation to Chiranvi’s family under the Natural Disaster Relief provisions.
