PM Modi urges BRICS to guard against weaponisation of technology, critical minerals

New Delhi, Sep 13, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged BRICS leaders to recognise the risks of weaponising technology and critical minerals, warning that such trends could undermine global progress and prosperity.

Addressing the second day of the BRICS Summit in Delhi in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Modi said growing geopolitical tensions, pandemics, climate disasters and supply-chain disruptions had shown that no crisis remains confined to a particular region.

“The world is witnessing increasing tensions, having a significant negative impact on the lives of ordinary people,” he said, stressing the need for greater resilience and preparedness within BRICS.

Modi said a consensus had been reached on a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for preventing and responding to infectious diseases, with guidelines for an early-warning data integration system ready.

He said India’s BRICS presidency had focused on four pillars—resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability—and thanked member countries for helping turn the shared vision into a “win-win situation.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto were among the leaders attending the session.
