Udupi district imposes three-day liquor ban during Ganeshotsava

Udupi, Sep 13, 2026: The Udupi district administration has ordered a three-day ban on liquor sales on September 14, 16 and 18 in view of Ganeshotsava celebrations and idol immersion ceremonies.

Deputy Commissioner T K Swaroopa, in an order, said liquor sales will be prohibited across the district from 6 am to midnight on September 14.

On September 16, the ban will be in force from 2 pm to midnight within Udupi city limits.

On September 18, liquor sales will be prohibited from 2 pm to midnight in police station jurisdictions where Ganesha idol immersions are scheduled. The restriction will also cover specified villages under the Gangolli, Kundapura Town and Kaup police station limits.

The order has been issued as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and law and order during the festivities. All licensed liquor shops, bars and other establishments in the affected areas have been directed to comply with the restrictions.
