Bengaluru, Nov 6, 2026: In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old cab driver has been arrested for allegedly murdering seven members of his wife’s family following prolonged marital disputes.
The accused, identified as Shekar alias Indushekar, allegedly carried out the killings over two days at his house near Bashyam Circle in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru. He is also suspected of disposing of some of the bodies at different locations near Chikkaballapura.
The Rajajinagar Police have arrested Shekar and are investigating the case.
The deceased have been identified as his wife Sunitha, mother-in-law Roopavathi, brothers-in-law Shivakumar and Shankar, Roopavathi’s daughters-in-law Divya and Nalini, and seven-year-old Puneeth, the son of Shivakumar.
According to preliminary police investigations, Shekar had married Sunitha around 20 years ago. However, the couple had reportedly been facing marital problems for some time. Sunitha’s family members had intervened on several occasions and supported her during the disputes.
Suspecting that his wife’s family members were interfering in their married life, Shekar allegedly decided to eliminate them.
Police sources said the accused allegedly invited the victims to his house one by one and murdered them using a grinding stone (oralu kallu).
He is suspected to have first killed Sunitha before targeting her mother and other family members. In one instance, he allegedly invited his brothers-in-law to his house on the pretext of hosting a party and then murdered them. He is also suspected of killing Divya and Nalini.
The multiple murders came to light after Nalini went missing and her mother lodged a missing-person complaint with the Srirampura Police.
During the investigation, police reportedly developed suspicion about Shekar and took him into custody for questioning. His alleged involvement in the killings subsequently came to light.
The body of seven-year-old Puneeth was found near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapura district. Police are continuing their investigation to establish where the remaining bodies were disposed of.
