Mangaluru, Jul 23, 2026: A retired teacher was killed in a road accident near Ratan Garage in Moodbidri on Wednesday evening after the auto-rickshaw in which he was travelling overturned while attempting to avoid a collision with a motorcycle.
The deceased has been identified as G.K. Bhat (Gopal Krishna Bhat), a resident of Venugopal Colony in Moodbidri.
According to eyewitnesses, Bhat was travelling with other passengers in an auto-rickshaw heading towards Moodbidri when the driver suddenly applied the brakes to avoid hitting a motorcycle. The auto-rickshaw overturned, and the impact threw Bhat out of the vehicle, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite treatment.
Bhat was a retired teacher and a senior RSS functionary. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
A case has been registered at the Moodbidri Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
