Karnataka to implement PM Rahat scheme, offer up to Rs 2.5 lakh for road accident treatment: U.T. Khader

Mangaluru, Jul 23, 2026: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader on Wednesday said the ’PM Rahat’ scheme, aimed at providing emergency medical treatment to road accident victims, will be implemented systematically across the state.

Addressing a press conference, Khader said the scheme, which has been introduced nationwide by the Central government to ensure timely treatment for accident victims, has not yet been fully implemented in Karnataka due to technical reasons.

He noted that the state had already introduced the Harish Santwana Scheme in 2014–15 under the then Chief Minister to provide assistance to road accident victims. Taking that model into account, the Centre later rolled out the PM Rahat scheme across the country.

Highlighting the benefits of the scheme, Khader said the Central government provides up to ₹1.5 lakh for emergency treatment under PM Rahat. In addition, the Karnataka government has decided to contribute ₹1 lakh, taking the total financial assistance for treatment to ₹2.5 lakh per accident victim. He said the enhanced support would help ensure prompt and quality medical care for those injured in road accidents.
