Mangaluru/Udupi, June 8, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from June 8 to 10, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify along the Karnataka coast.
The weather department has forecast rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm over the next three days, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Wind speeds over the Arabian Sea are likely to reach up to 60 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until June 10 due to rough weather conditions.
Moderate rainfall was reported across several parts of Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday, including Puttur, Sullia, Moodbidri, Bantwal and Beltangady. Mangaluru experienced rain during the morning, followed by intermittent showers throughout the day under overcast skies.
In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature was recorded at 28.9°C, which was 2.1°C below normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 23.5°C, 0.3°C below the seasonal average.
Udupi district also witnessed moderate rainfall on Sunday. The day began with cloudy skies and light drizzle, interspersed with brief spells of sunshine.
Thunder accompanied moderate rain in several areas, including Udupi city, Manipal, Parkala, Athradi, Hiriyadka, Alevoor, Kukkikatte, Katapady, Kaup, Hebri, Karkala, Brahmavar, Kundapur and parts of Byndoor taluk.
Sunny intervals were observed during the afternoon, while light drizzle continued in many places during the evening.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall recorded during the last 24 hours stood at 25.8 mm in Karkala, 25.1 mm in Byndoor, 22.3 mm in Kaup, 13.1 mm in Brahmavar, 10.3 mm in Kundapur, 9.6 mm in Udupi and 5.7 mm in Hebri.
