Mangalore, Jan 26, 2012: Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 63rd Republic day, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that a record number of development programs have been launched in DK during the past 3-and-a-half years.


The minister delivered the Republic Day address after hoisting the national flag on Nehru Maidan on the morning of Jan 26 Thursday.

He further said that 528kms of national highway, 775kms of main roads, and 138 infrastructural projects worth Rs. 9,545 lakhs will be completed under the NABARD scheme. Declaring that 85 infrastructural projects have been successfully completed, Palemar said that 69 new infrastructural projects worth Rs. 7250 lakh will be launched in 2011 – 12. 


Stating that 30 bridges have already been constructed, he said that work on the Mangalore Court building worth Rs. 18 crore, the Circuit House worth Rs. 3 crores, and the second phase of the Puttur Mini Vidhana Soudha building worth Rs. 550 lakh is in progress. Declaring that the Sullia Mini Vidhana Soudha building will be completed by March 2012, the minister said that development work on the courts of Mangalore, Bantwal, and Moodubidri, worth Rs. 32 crore is in progress. 


Further, he said that the government has sanctioned Rs. 5,638 lakhs for the drinking water scheme in 2011 – 12 and that Rs. 1331 lakhs have already been spent on this project.


The district-in-charge minister read a report of various development schemes and pograms launched in DK in the year 2011 – 12. 


A number of achievers were honored on this occasion. 


Among the dignitaries present were Mayor Praveen, N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly; Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner; Abhishek Goyal, the superintendent of police; K. T. Shailaja Bhat, the president of DK Zilla Panchayat; Captain Ganesh Karnik, the MLC and vice president of the NRI Committee; DC Dr. Channappa Gowda; B. Nagaraj Shetty, the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority; Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of ZP; and many others. 


Just before his Republic Day address, Palemar received the guard of honor in an open jeep. Fourteen teams comprising the traffic police, the civil police, the PSI, the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), NCC Army Junior, NCC Navy Junior, Guides, Road Safety Patrl, Bharath Seva Dal, and others participated in the march past, accompanied by the police band. 


The highlight of the event was the Vintage Car Rally and an exhibition of old models of two-wheelers organized by the Mangalore Motor Association under the guidance of Sudhir B. K.
