Mangaluru, Oct 8, 2026: Women contract workers who were allegedly dismissed from HPCL without prior notice have been staging a protest by sitting in front of the company’s gate during working hours for the past one month and seven days.
Labour leaders expressed anger against HPCL officials for allegedly refusing to accept a memorandum submitted regarding the workers’ grievances. Meanwhile, the Surathkal Citizens’ Action Committee has been supporting the women workers for the past week.
Citizens’ Action Committee leader Muneer Katipalla warned that the workers’ issues must be resolved within seven days, failing which a major protest would be launched.
The workers continued their protest and attempts to submit the memorandum for nearly three-and-a-half hours, following which Surathkal police intervened. After police mediation, HPCL officials finally accepted the workers’ memorandum.
