The ragging menace in trains has terrified not only students, but also other passengers. Senior students have made it a habit to rag their juniors, especially in the Chervattoor to Mangalore train in the mornings and Mangalore to Kannur trains in the evenings. Most of the victims have just joined various colleges in Mangalore.

Recently, a junior student on the Chervattoor to Mangalore passenger trainer jumped off the train to escape the harassment of his seniors and sustained severe injuries. The victim Ibrahim Asari (17) of Uliyathadka, a student of a private college in Ullal, is now in a Kasargod hospital.

Senior students also capture the entire scene in the form of video clips on their mobile phones and upload the same in social networking sites such as YouTube and Facebook.

Owing to the ragging menace in trains, a number of students choose to travel by bus.
