Puttur, Jan 20, 2026: A retired headmaster died after falling from a coconut tree while plucking peppercorns at Gummattegadde in Bettampady village on Monday, January 19.
The deceased has been identified as Narayana Naik Paintimugeru, a resident of Gummattegadde. The incident occurred when he climbed an aluminium ladder to pluck peppercorns growing on a coconut tree in front of his house. He reportedly slipped and fell along with the ladder.
Narayana Naik sustained severe injuries in the fall and was rushed to Puttur hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
A former headmaster of a government school in Badagannur, Narayana Naik had also served as the general secretary of the Brahmakalashotsava committee of the Padumale Sri Kove Shasthara Vishnu Murthy Temple. He was actively involved in several social and community organisations.
