Milad-un-Nabi Holiday Likely on August 25 in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi

Mangaluru, Aug 23, 2026: Milad-un-Nabi will be observed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday, August 25, following a decision by the Qazis of the two districts based on the moon sighting.

The Karnataka government had earlier scheduled the public holiday for Milad-un-Nabi on August 26. However, the date was brought forward to August 25 due to a change in the Islamic lunar calendar.

Several Muslim organisation leaders from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi had urged Health and Family Welfare, Haj and Wakf, and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U.T. Khader to change the holiday date.

Responding to the request, Khader has instructed the Deputy Commissioners of both districts and the Chief Secretary to take steps to declare August 25 as a government public holiday.
