Puttur, January 20, 2026: Puttur Rural Police have arrested two persons and seized 106 kg of ganja being transported in two vehicles.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rafiq P. (37) and Abdul Sadiq (37), residents of Belthangady, Charmadi village. A total of 106 kg and 160 grams of ganja was seized from two vehicles belonging to them. The seized contraband is valued at ₹53.03 lakh, said Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K.

Acting on credible information about ganja being transported in a car and a goods vehicle, Puttur Rural Police conducted a vehicle check at Sajankadi in Paduvanuru village on the evening of January 19. During the inspection, police found bundles containing leaves, flowers and seeds of the ganja plant, weighing about 100 grams, packed in a plastic cover inside the car driven by accused Rafiq P.

On inspecting the goods vehicle driven by Sadiq, the police recovered 73 bundles of ganja weighing a total of 106 kg and 60 grams. The total estimated value of the seized contraband is ₹53,03,000, the SP said.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that they were transporting the ganja for sale in Kerala, Mangaluru and other parts of Dakshina Kannada district. The vehicles used for transportation and two mobile phones in the possession of the accused have also been seized.

A case has been registered at Puttur Rural Police Station under Crime No. 09/2026, Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out by a team led by Puttur Rural Police Sub-Inspector Gunapala J., along with staff Harish, Harshit, Prashanth, Adram, Prashanth Rai, Praveen Rai, Bhavith Rai, Nagaraj, Satish, Ramesh, Subramani and Vinod.
