Bengaluru, Aug 31, 2025: Property registration charges in Karnataka have doubled from Sunday, following a state government notification issued on August 29. The fee has been revised from 1% to 2% of the property value, effective August 31.
The notification, made public on Saturday, led to temporary disruptions in sub-registrar offices across the state. Many offices suspended registrations from Friday 4 pm citing server maintenance for implementing the revised rates, and services resumed only by Saturday evening. Officials admitted that the move led to confusion among property buyers and a lull in registrations.
Explaining the impact, Manandi Suresh, a real estate expert from FKCCI, said, “If a flat costs Rs 1 crore, the registration charge will now be Rs 2 lakh instead of Rs 1 lakh. Lease agreements, rental agreements, advance registration charges, and even bank-related registrations will also see fees doubled.”
According to Revenue Department Principal Secretary Munish Moudgil, the hike is expected to generate an additional Rs 3,000 crore for the state exchequer between August 31, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
