Preparations underway for Mahamastakabhisheka of Lord Bahubali in Venoor

Belthangady, Jan 27, 2012: Dhananjaya Kumar, the working president of the Mahamastakabhisheka of Lord Bahubali Committee of Venoor and former MP, said that preparations have been made for the event, which is organized for social welfare. 


Speaking at a press conference held on Jan 26 Thursday at Shri Bahubali Auditorium in Venoor, he said the Rs. 1.5 crore will be spent on this annual 9-day ritual. The ablution will be performed on the first day by the members of the royal family of Aladangady and on the next seven days by the devotees, he said. 


Further, he said that the ablution will be performed by the members of the committee on behalf of the public on the last day. The statue of Lord Bahubali (Gomateshwara) will be anointed with various items on a daily basis. A number of Jain sages and swamijis will attend the event. A Pancha Kalyana event will also be held on the life and teachings of Bahubali, he said. 


He also said that the Rs. 2 crore released by the state government for the development of the pilgrimage centre have been used to make the hillock safer for devotees. Besides, work on constructing a bungalow will soon begin, he added.

He also said that Rs. 24 crore will be spend on a project of pumping water from River Phalguni, purifying it, and supplying it to Venoor and 11 other villages. This proposal has already been submitted to the government and the irrigation department has already conducted a survey. The project will be launched during the Mahamasthakabhisheka, he said. 


He also said that funds released could not be used to develop roads in the region because of the climate. 


Shri Bhattaraka Charukeerthi Pannditacharyavarya Swamiji, Dr. Padmaprasad Ajila of the royal family that installed the statue of Lord Bahubail, and Committee General Secretary Ernodi Gunapal Jain were also present.
