Mohan Kumar, the manager of Bharath Finance, had lodged a complaint at the Puttur police station on June 5, stating that a person calling himself Ganesh had arrived at his office requesting a loan to release 8 pavans of gold from a rural bank at Puttur. Later, Ganesh took Gangadhar, who was an assistant at the finance office, with an amount of Rs. 1,15,000 to Puttur. Shortly thereafter, Gangadhar went missing. The police found the dead body of Gangadhar on the same day in a sewer at Kodimbady.

The police finally identified the culprit with the help of a finance office clerk. The guilty person was at Kundapura bus stand, just about to escape to Mumbai by bus early in the morning on June 15, Tuesday. They also confiscated a mobile phone, Rs. 93,420, and a knife.

The SP awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 to the members of the police investigative team, which solved the case.
