Over 30,000 participate in Alva’s grand Republic Day celebrations

Mangaluru, Jan 26, 2026: A strong democracy rests on an active judiciary, unity beyond caste and religion, and equality, observed High Court Justice H.P. Sandesh.

He was speaking after unfurling the national flag at the Republic Day celebrations organised by Alva’s Education Foundation at the Puttige Vanajakshi Shripati Bhat stage on Monday.

More than 30,000 people, including principals, administrators, teaching and non-teaching staff of Alva’s group of educational institutions, parents, students and local residents, gathered at Vidyagiri for the event.

As many as 6,257 students of Alva’s institutions formed a tricolour display representing India in saffron, white and green. Cultural programmes, including group singing, were presented. Over 300 ex-servicemen paid tribute to the n
ational flag.

Justice Sandesh received the guard of honour from NCC Senior Under Officer Gauri G.P. and arrived at the dais with the band and honours. Senior Under Officer Yadunandan presented the parade report.

Akshay Hegde, who secured first rank in Karnataka CET, was felicitated with a cash award of ₹2 lakh.

Alva’s Education Foundation president Dr M. Mohan Alva, managing trustees Vivek Alva and Dr Vinay Alva, Shripati Bhat, Bharat Scouts and Guides State Commissioner P.G.R. Sindhya and others were present. The programme was compered by lecturer Rajesh D’Souza and Arts Faculty Dean K. Venugopal Shetty.
