Old tree falls across NH66 at Thokkotu

Mangalore, Sep 16, 2011 : A huge tree, estimated to be around 75 years old, which was located by NH 66 near Thokkottu fell across the highway early in the morning of September 16 Friday. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or property because there were no vehicles on the highway.

 

 

 

The tree might have fallen because the soil around it became loose with all the digging work part of the highway widening project. The continuous rains might have further aggravated the situation.

Another tree close by is also in danger of falling because of highway widening activities.

The local people, fire fighting personnel, and policemen joined hands to clear the tree off the highway as early as possible to avoid traffic blocks.
