Nine private colleges permitted to start PG courses

Shivshankar12mar10Mangalore, Mar 10, 2012: Prof. T. C. Shivashankarmurthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, said that the local inspection committee has permitted nine private colleges to start PG courses on certain conditions. 


These nine colleges include Canara College (M.Com.), Govindasa College in Suratkal (M.Com.), Bhuvanendra College in Karkala (MA Economics), St. Philomena College in Puttur (M.Sc. Physics), Sacred Heart College of Madanthyar (M. Com.), MGM College of Udupi (M.Sc. computer science), Milagres College in Kallianpur (M. Com.), Bhandarkar’s College in Kundapur (M.Com.), and Kaveri College of Gonikoppa (MA Economics). 


Seven government colleges have requested permission to start PG courses. They are Dr. G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College in Ajjarakadu (MBA/MCA/MCJ), Shrimathi Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Government First Grade College in Barkur (M.Sc. Physics, M.Sc. Psychology, MA Economics, M.Sc. Information System), Government First Grade College in Hebri (MA History, MA Economics, M.Com.), Government First Grade College in Vamanapadavu (MA Kannada, MA History, Government First Grade College in Vittal (M.Com.), Government First Grade College in Uppinangady (MA Kannada), and Government First Grade College in Kushalnagar (MA Political Science and M.Com.). 


The local inspection committee has not given permission for PG courses to Dr. G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grace College, Government First Grade College in Hebri, and Government First Grade College in Vittal. So, the VC has directed the committee to conduct one more inspection to find out if these colleges have the required infrastructure for PG courses. In case of shortage of staff, he said that the university will write to the government to make fresh appointments, he said.


The VC has also directed government colleges to follow the proper procedure while admitting students to PG courses. Further explaining, he said that colleges should advertise in newspapers, giving full details regarding the admission. 


He has also stated that the university will take up admission responsibilities if the colleges fail to follow the correct procedure. He also said that, in order to further prevent admission irregularities in government colleges, the university will seek the government’s permission to take up this responsibility and to place advertisements for admissions in newspapers. 


The VC also said that the academic council of the Mangalore University has approved fresh affiliations filed by Vidya Rashmi First Grade College in Savanoor, St. Lawrence College in Moodubelle, and Melkar Degree College in Marnabail to start BA and B.Com. courses. The council has also approved continuation of affiliation of 109 colleges, including 90 private colleges and 19 government colleges.


Meanwhile, the government has approved the regulatory framework regarding diploma, certificate, and post graduate diploma correspondence courses in Tulu. The VC said that these courses will start next academic year.
