New park for special kids Chilipili to be inaugurated on Dec 30

Mangalore, Dec 28, 2011 :The Gandhinagara Park Trust and the MCC will inaugurate a new park for special children called “Chilipili” in the Gandhi Park on Dec 30 Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Speaking at a press meet held at Press Club today, Harish Kumar, the commissioner of MCC, said that the park was built after a few people mistook an autistic child who was brought to Gandhi Park to be mad.

He also said that Gandhi Park offers plenty of entertainment for children of all age groups, including rope bridges, swings, fountains, merry go rounds, sea saws, slides, climbers, and others. Chilipili will also have a slide, swings, a merry go round, a fountain, a rope climber, a tire tunnel, a parallel bar, a sea saw, and a basket ball board. A total of Rs. 20 lakh was spent in building this park, of which Rs. 5 lakh was donated by various individuals, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak said that a lady caretaker will be appointed for the park. The public can visit Chilipili from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on all days of the week, except Mondays. Entrance to the park is free and any school that wishes to bring the children to the park on Mondays can place a request in advance and the park will be opened for them, she added.

Architect Venkatesh Pai and Gandhinagara Park Trust President Prabha Kamath were also present.
