Moodbidri: Six held for illegal cockfighting; roosters, cash seized

Moodbidri, Mar 19, 2026: Police raided an illegal cockfighting den and arrested six accused in Moodbidri, under the Mangaluru City Commissionerate limits.

Based on a tip-off that some individuals had gathered illegally to conduct cockfights after a fair in the Hoyipaalabettu area of Moodumarnadu village on March 18, Moodbidri police carried out a raid. The accused had tied sharp blades to the legs of the roosters and were making them fight violently, with money being wagered as part of gambling.

During the operation, police arrested six persons at the spot. They also seized 17 live roosters used for cockfighting, two sharp blades, and cash amounting to ₹1,480.

A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
