Mangalore, August 15, 2011: The Cross Country Monsoon Marathon organized by the Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple in a bid to promote health, social harmony, and hygiene, encourage appreciation of rural living, create appreciative feelings for the beauty of the countryside, and inspire people to protect the environment, attracted a number of participants, players, and dignitaries.

Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Cross Country Monsoon Marathon being organized by Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshawra Temple, Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar, took off to flying start with the flag off by Dhanraj Pillay, the star hockey player of the country in the wee hours of the morning, in the presence of film stars Pooja Gandhi, Neethu and Shivadwaj.

The dignitaries who attended the ceremony were Sri K. Abhayachandra (MLA, Moodabidri), Sri Rajesh Naik Ulipady (Oddoor Farms), Dr. M. Mohan Alva (Chairman,
Alva’s Education Foundation), Sri Srikar Prabhu (President, Mangalore City BJP), Mr.
Anil Shibad (Solar Consultant, New Jersey, USA), Dr. Bhagwandas Shetty, Mangalore and Dr. Shouri Rai, Uppinangadi.

The marathon flag off was preceded by the flag hoisting to mark Independence Day by Dhanraj Pillay in the temple premises. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the efforts of the organizers to promote sports and hoped that the temple would soon organize a hockey tournament as that sport is close to his heart.

K. Abhayachandra, MLA, Moodbidri constituency said the organizers of the event under the leadership of Vijaynath Shetty had rightly chosen ‘Unity’ as the them of the marathon.

Sandalwood star impressed everyone by singing a few lines of the hit song ‘Olave Jeevana’ from her blockbuster movie ‘Mungaru Male’. Her celluloid colleagues Neethu and Shivadwaj too gave their messages on the occasion.
