Mangalore, May 8: The DK Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union celebrated its silver jubilee at the Mangalore Dairy on May 8, Sunday. N. Yogesh Bhat, the deputy speaker, inaugurated the event and laid the foundation stone for the union’s brand new production unit. G. Somashekar Reddy, the president of the Karnataka Milk Federation, released the 400-gram packet of curds.

In his address, Mr. Reddy informed the audience that a cheese production unit will be started at Bangalore in collaboration with Fonterra, a farmer-owned company based in New Zealand. If the board accepts the proposal, the unit will produce 50 tons of cheese at the cost of Rs. 80 crore annually, he added.

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar honored the previous presidents of the union and Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje honored the coordinators and directors of the union. Udupi MP D. V. Sadananda Gowda distributed prizes among the winners of the Nandini quiz competition. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel honored the union’s best dealers.

SCDCC Bank President M. N. Rajendra Kumar and DK Milk Union President Raviraj Hegde were also present.
