Belthangady: Fake gold pledged at cooperative society; Two arrested

Belthangady, Feb 4, 2026: Police have arrested two persons in connection with a case of pledging fake gold ornaments to obtain a loan at the Odiyooru Sri Vividoddesha Souharda Cooperative Society, Madanthyaru branch.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pramod P. (50) of Bolanthoor village in Bantwal taluk and Abdul Nazeer (43) of Uli village.


Fake gold


According to police, on February 2, 2026, two customers visited the Madanthyaru branch of the cooperative society, located in Parenki village of Belthangady taluk, and offered three gold chains as collateral for a loan in the name of Abdul Nazeer. During verification by appraisers, it was found that all three gold chains were fake.

Based on a complaint lodged by the branch manager, a case was registered at the Punjalkatte police station. Following investigation, the accused were arrested and produced before the court, police said.
