Bengaluru, Feb 3, 2026: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of C.J. Roy, founder and chairman of the Confident Group, will record statements from family members and others, and further action will be decided based on the inquiry report.

Roy, a native of Kerala, was found dead at his Bengaluru office on January 30 with bullet injuries. Preliminary reports suggest he died by suicide amid ongoing Income Tax raids at his premises.

“SIT has begun the investigation. They will record statements from family members and others and examine the findings,” Parameshwara told reporters when asked about the probe.

When asked about claims from Roy’s family that he was under pressure from the Income Tax department, the minister said, “All of this will be clarified after the investigation is complete. Until then, we cannot state any specific reason.”

Regarding Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan writing to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking a judicial inquiry into Roy’s death, Parameshwara said, “I am aware that a letter has been sent, but I do not know its contents. We will have to wait and see the decision. The IT department comes under Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Whether she orders a judicial or other form of inquiry is not known. At the state level, we have formed an SIT, the investigation has begun, and further decisions will be made based on its report.”

An Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been registered at Ashok Nagar Police Station in connection with Roy’s death. Roy, who was also the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic, allegedly shot himself during the Income Tax search at his Bengaluru office, police sources said. His brother, C.J. Babu, claimed that Roy was under pressure due to the ongoing proceedings by the IT department.
