Bantwal, Feb 3, 2026: A theft case has been registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station after an elderly woman was assaulted and robbed at her home in Vagga Kavala Paduru village, Bantwal taluk.

According to the complaint lodged by Ganesh (43), his mother was alone at home rolling beedis when an unknown man visited, asking for him. The intruder claimed to know the family, mentioning a local resident, Vasu Moolya, to gain her trust.

He requested drinking water, and when offered, demanded hot water. As she went to the kitchen, the accused followed her, stuffed a cloth into her mouth, tied her hands and legs, and pushed her to the floor.

The thief then forcibly snatched a 20-gram gold chain, valued at around Rs 1.90 lakh, from her neck and also took her keypad mobile phone, worth approximately Rs 500, from the veranda before fleeing.

A case has been registered under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
