Kundapura, Feb 4, 2026: Kundapura police have arrested an accused in connection with a theft case in which a gold chain was stolen from a jewellery store by posing as a customer.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ramesh (42), a resident of Badaga in Kajekar village of Bantwal taluk. On the evening of January 27, an unidentified person visited SPG Gold and Diamond shop near Shastri Circle in Kundapura. On the pretext of purchasing gold, he diverted the attention of the shop staff and allegedly stole a gold chain weighing about 9 grams, valued at ₹1.25 lakh. A case was registered at the Kundapura police station following the incident.
During the course of the investigation, the police traced and arrested the accused. They also recovered the stolen gold chain and seized ₹33,000 in cash from his possession. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Kundapura DySP H.D. Kulkarni and led by Kundapura Police Inspector Jayaram D. Gowda, along with PSIs Nanjanayk N. and Pushpa, and staff members Santosh, Mahabala Shettigar, Prince, Ghanashyam, Santosh Devadiga, Gautham, Lohith, and Chandrashetty.
