Mangalore, Feb 14: “Mankind has a lot to learn from Christianity,” said Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi at the formal function of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Guardian Angel Church of Angelore parish on Feb 14, Sunday. As one of the guests of honor, he also presented a cheque to Fr Stany Lobo, the parish priest of Angelore, as his contribution to the education fund of the parish.

 

 

 

Bishop Aloysius and representatives of parish lighted 75 lamps to mark platinum jubilee celebrations and later shared the light with the devotees. MLA N Yogish Bhat was the chief guest of the occasion.

Maroli Sri Suryanarayan temple managing trustee B Damodar Nisarga, Kankanady Sri Brahma Baidarkala Garodi manager and trustee A Bhoja Karkera and Padil Masjid, Rehman president B Ahmed were the guests of honour.

 

Referring to the peaceful nature of Christians, the bishop in his presidential address said that Christians generally live in harmony and brotherhood with other religions and cultures. He also pointed out the Christian institutions foster peace and unity within society.

 

Before the formal programme, the bishop offered the festive mass in the early morning. Fr Norbert D’Souza, the parish priest of Angelore; Fr Victor Pinto, the assistant parish priest; Fr Maxim D’Souza and Fr Anil Castelino, the former priests of the parish; and Fr. Denis Rasquinha, the parish priest of Bondel; Fr. Anthony Serrao, the rector of St Joseph’s Monastery Bikarnakatte; Fr. George Santhumayer, the episcopal vicar of Udupi; Fr. Patrick Rodrigues, the administrator of Fr Muller Charitable Institution; Fr. Stany Tauro; Fr Apolinaris Crasta; and other priests concelebrated.

Acknowledging the various contributions of Christians in the fields of education and social welfare, Damodar Nisarga said that one can go closer to the divine only by placing complete trust in God and loving ones fellowmen.

The bishop felicitated the former parish priests of Angelore, the vice presidents and secretaries of the parish council, the heads of convents, elderly parishioners, ward leaders, dramatists, musicians, social activists, writers, athletes, and other achievers. Joseph Vaz, the sacristan of Angelore parish was also honored for serving the parish for a number of years.

Jacintha Boromio, the corporator; Fr Gratian ALvares, the assistant parish priest of Angelore; Jossy D’Souza, the vice president of the parish council were the dignitaries on the dais.
